Dominique Meunier
Painting · Oil, ink, acrylic and texture
Based near Besançon, Dominique Meunier's artistic practice transformed in the year 2000 following a severe accident and a near-death experience. From that moment on, painting became a vital necessity and a tool of resilience, enabling him to sublimate chaos into clarity and to translate his sensations from « the other side of the mirror ». Emerging as a leading figure of metaphysical figuration, he melds the expertise of inks—inherited from screen printing—with the raw power of pigments and mortar to transcend mere representation of reality and reveal the invisible. His work endeavours to be a « poetics of passage », where landscape serves as a mirror to the soul and a threshold towards spiritual transcendence. His oeuvre thus revolves around totem trees acting as Axis Mundi (pillars linking earth to sky) and vaporous horizons conducive to contemplation. This quest, described as « vertical Chrysopoeia », aims to transmute the fragility of human matter into pure light. Author of several works and an active member of the international art scene, he exhibits regularly in France and abroad. The philosophical dimension of his canvases has prompted prestigious collaborations, notably with writer and poet Michel Lagrange (laureate of the Académie française and renowned author known for his dialogues with major artists such as Pierre Soulages).
