Dominique Meunier
Painting · Oil, ink, acrylic and texture
Based near Besançon, Dominique Meunier's artistic practice underwent a dramatic transformation in the year 2000 following a severe accident and a near-death experience. From that point forward, painting became a vital necessity and a tool of resilience, allowing him to transform chaos into clarity and to articulate his perceptions from « the other side of the mirror ». Establishing himself as a leading figure in metaphysical figuration, he merges the expertise of inks—inherited from screen printing—with the raw power of pigments and mortar to transcend mere representation of reality and reveal the invisible. His work embodies a « poetics of passage », wherein landscape serves as a mirror to the soul and a threshold towards spiritual transcendence. His oeuvre thus revolves around totem-like trees functioning as Axis Mundi (pillars connecting earth to sky) and vaporous horizons conducive to contemplation. This quest, termed « vertical Chrysopoeia », seeks to transmute the fragility of human matter into pure light. A published author and active participant in the international art scene, he exhibits regularly throughout France and abroad. The philosophical dimension of his canvases has inspired prestigious collaborations, notably with writer and poet Michel Lagrange (laureate of the Académie française and renowned for his dialogues with major artists such as Pierre Soulages).
