Actress, writer and French painter, Anny Duperey is an iconic figure of popular culture. Renowned for her roles in theatre, cinema and television, she develops in parallel a sensitive artistic body of work in which memory, emotion and fragments of life intersect. 'To paint is to attempt to retain what is already fading.' Guest of honour at the exhibition in June 2026 at Roz In Winter Gallery. Why exhibit? I was barely 15 when I entered the SCHOOL OF FINE ARTS in Rouen, placing second in the entrance examination. At 17, after two years of general studies, I was about to enter full‑time the painting section under my master Robert SAVARY. But studying drama in parallel, I found myself admitted, to 'follow my friends', to the National Conservatory of Dramatic Arts in PARIS – a turning point! It would be churlish of me to complain, since I owe to this change of course a distinguished career as an actress and writer. Yet the regret for that first calling towards painting continued to haunt me... I would then bring out colours and brushes again, and to ensure that my gifts and technique remained intact, I copied many works by Matisse, Dufy, Derain – painters who were, so to speak, 'in my manner'. Then, with what remained on my palette, the leftover colours, I would cast upon canvas something of my own... But out of respect for the 'true' painters, those who dedicate their lives to this Art, I refrained from displaying my works. Only belatedly do I permit myself to do so... modestly! It is time for me to return to my first calling.
